Family Picture to welcome the year 2010
So maybe I didn’t really resurrect but this actually stands for the long blog hiatus and I’m back on the third day of year 2010. I was typing around awhile ago hoping to finish this post before the clock struck 12 but internationally speaking it ain’t the third day of New year just yet so I’m fine with that.
Funny how on the first two days of new year were filled with clouds of doubt, skepticism, and uncertainty. New year’s day comes every once a year (duh). But every year it’s the same old story of a resolution unfulfilled. A series of unfortunate events following the years that come often discourages my already discouraged soul.
What’s the point of having a new year’s resolution if nothing right happens? Why celebrate a new year when it’s most likely gonna be like the same old year?
These thoughts were constantly swimming in my head causing me to be idle, unmotivated, and depressed. But after careful reflection, I came to a certain understanding that made me realize there’s still a way.
Every year comes anew, but people only celebrate it ONCE a year. What most of us do not actually realize, is that everyday is New year’s day! Every single day that will pass by this year 2010 is a new day in this new year! 365 chances more! Okay, maybe I missed out on the first 2 chances but hey, I still got 363 more to go.
As I am writing this I was also thinking of adding a lot of things that happened in the year 2009. But I decided not to because the Old turtle guy in Kung Fu Panda said, “The past is history. The future is a mystery and today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.” (or maybe it’s just that I don’t have much time left to write those things
)
So as to formally have closure over 2009 and welcome this 2010 with a joyous and optimistic heart, I would like to close it with a poem and welcome it with.. well a poem.
On a fresh new year’s eve, we eagerly greeted
In the hopes of a new chance, this was what we needed
So the dancing and singing filled our hall
The day that we hoped for, the great change in all
But as quick as the celebration had actually begun
Everyone settles down, the party was done
Back to the old life nothing has changed
The same old routine, our life’s been arranged
Then suddenly out of nowhere, we came unprepared
The trashing and gnashing, everyone got scared
Behold the mighty wrath, of the Typhoon: Ondoy
Destroying all things, removing all sources of Joy
We were filled with despair, we all needed to heal
But then came Typhoon Pepeng, the horror’s too real
It was a painful sight indeed, to see a child in terror
And more painful to know, it’s partly the government’s error
As if the waters and winds were just not enough
Even fire and mother Earth, decided to get rough.
Blasting spews of hell, the volcano’s untamed anger
Burning all that’s living, making people suffer
But not all that happened is a reminder of bad
Not all that occurred is to make us just sad
I will never forget when each Filipino was a hero
Extending our hands to bring a new tomorrow
And here’s to a new chance we shall once again greet
A new hope for blessings we will all someday meet
Go forth and be happy, spread the new year’s cheer
And if you need a friend, I will always be near
Good luck to everyone this year 2010
