Birders of Cebu Gather: Cebu Bird Conservation Society
For anyone who truly knows me, I am an avid lover of avian wildlife. I can spend the whole day just walking around in our subdivision just observing 20 different species of birds flying around whether they be in flocks, pairs, or solitary flight.
Many months ago, I was already informed by my uncle Raul Puentespina (co-author of Birds of Cebu and Bohol, Philippines and photographer of the rare Cebu Black Shama-Copsychus Cebuenensis) about a certain group in Cebu that was formed for the Birders in Cebu. Now, not many Filipinos are actually enthusiastic about birding. It comes to a point that we even get humiliated for what we do. I grew up in a setting where my brothers and sisters laughed at me for knowing these birds and my friends not understanding my passion.
But now, we finally have a group (and I am proud to be an official member) that is dedicated to preserving our Jewels of the forest (got this term from sir Romy Ocon’s Forum). And we finally have the papers ready (thanks to Godo, Herman, and Lisa) and we’re off to a great start.
It was truly an honor to meet again the authors of Birds of Cebu and Bohol: Bobby Kintanar and Nilo Arribas Jr..
That meeting in Not Just Coffee was a productive one and I hope we would have more to come.

this post is very usefull thx!
Wow! That’s interesting, I didn’t know that such a group existed in Cebu! How often does the group meet and where, and how to become a member?
@queeniebee You can try to search for Nilo Arribas on Facebook. I haven’t been able to renew my membership for CBCS. They do bird watching sometimes
I’m really interested in purchasing the book that your uncle was involved in writing. I know that it’s no longer a new book–is there a bookstore in Cebu where it can be bought? It looks like a book that would be really informative and interesting to read. I like that it’s specifically about birds of the area.
@queeniebee Hi, I’m not sure if it’s anywhere, I’ll try to ask my uncle.
