The much awaited Blogger to Wordpress Migration actually happened on an August 1, 2009 at home. So is Wordpress better than Blogger? Generally speaking, Yes. But is it in all ways better? No. So which one is better? Wordpress or Blogger?

Then and Now
If I were to give out every single detail for the reasons then that is sure to keep you stuck on the computer screen for the couple of hours.
Wordpress vs Blogger
So let me just give you a list of why I chose Wordpress.
- Read more – it is just a click away, with no more headaches of adding codes to your post. In blogger, you still need to add the code to your post and with the additional dilemma if your read more code clashes with your div class code and makes it all messed up.
- Blog stats -this is more accurate than the usual Google Analytics because some browsers disable GA.
- Picture upload- okay, if you’re not scared of using a lot of memory, then the photo uploading and posting is more convenient than blogger. The flash uploader does work for me in 10 minutes when I could’ve been spending 2 hours on posting.
- Plug ins + widgets – blogger only had widgets, and some of them don’t work as well as we expect them on the page. WP plug ins are the bomb! Working like magic on my blog, I’m lovin it!
- Themes – Blogger has a variety of themes, but they just seem to have a lot of bugs or problems, WP themes are cool, especially the Premium themes.
- SEO- I onced asked my friends if WP can SEO better than Blogger, apparently with the SEO plug in and the simplicity of the page makes it all very easy.
- Categories + Tags – blogger merely had Labels which got a little too crowded, WP has categories convenient for the reader.
- Pages – now this is one feature that Blogger REALLY needs, adding pages in blogger requires that you blog it. WP allows you to creat pages essential such as: About, blogroll, Archives and more.
- Sleek look – okay, i’ll admit, the blogger dashboard looks rather… childish, the WP dashboard has a more professional touch to it.
- More control -now that I am self hosted, I have more control on my files, codes, pages and more. Unlike Blogger where you had to bear with whatever it had to offer.
Those are just 10 things I like about WP. But do I miss Blogger? At times I do, in fact my Velez Times runs on blogger. So as to say thank you to blogger, here are the things I liked about it:
- Edit HTML for Layout- its easy to find, add, and remove codes, if its there, its there.
- Layout control -SUPER flexible, this is where WP has not yet ventured to. In WP, you can only add widgets to what is widget ready (unless you’re well versed in codes) while in Blogger, header, footer, sidebars, in between header and body post, You can insert widgets almost everywhere!
- Free hosting with domain- no need to self host when you have your own domain.
- Less tendency to crash- compared to self hosted sites, you have no fear of crashing if you have 10,000 visitors per day.
- Theme collection- okay, so some may have bugs, but the theme library is soooo big, I still wanna play around with blogger cuz of these.
Basically, wordpress is not yet perfect in its own way YET. There are still stuff they need to add like:
- blog stats -bounce rate scale
- free hosted with own domain blogs
- more flexibility in widget control
So in conclusion,
I love Wordpress, but that doesn’t mean I’m leaving Blogger for good.
Is Wordpress for you?
If you’re after what is free and you have your own domain then the basic Blogger is good. But if you are into serious blogging with lots of memory usage and stuff like that, then get ready to spend a tad bit more when you’re getting into Wordpress.
Special thanks to Winston who helped me migrate, host, and buy the domain name of my blog. I learned a great deal of SEO and Wordpress tutorials from him. And mind you, my current hosting costs around $250 every two years. And guess what, I got it for free! Thanks Ahia!

waaah… you had migrated already to Wordpress, huh Buddy… Me? maybe I’ll just stay on Blogger unless I have enough time to re-layout everything…
lol. once you taste wordpress you will be never have the same blogging experience ever again.
Hmm. I wonder how you did it but personally, I would love to migrate my blog too to Wordpress. There’s a lot of features that Wordpress has than Blogger. The thing is I just don’t know how.
Ei Boffill, its simple, first you gotta get a Wordpress account in wordpress.com, then there in the dashboard for WP, at the left side bar, there is “Tools” and a sub menu: Import. Then Wordpress does everything for you.
But I strongly suggest that you get an expert blogger to help you
WordPress is the best among the rest!
Nice move Vanjohnn!
ang galing. congrats on the smooth migration. I want to learn too!
I had my first blog on Blogger 5 years ago then after a year I migrated to Wordpress and I never looked back. Congrats on your move!
