As part of the growth and development in the credibility of the group, Cebu Bloggers Society invited Lorenzo “Insoy” Niñal, an Editor and columnist from Sunstar, to talk about the principles of good content editing. The Seminar was held in Enovlink Training Center on the 3d Floor of Angelica Bldg. Jones Ave..

Insoy started by stating out the different expectations of the group. One of which was the key to doing a good editing. He himself admitted that he was initially intimidated by the group because bloggers are after all very “techy”. But of course, before the birth of Computers and instant grammar corrections, there was always the traditional proofreading by some trained professionals, and Insoy happens to be one of them.

We then headed to the first activity for the group which was writing a sample article of three paragraphs. This sample article had to be about promoting a certain person to be the next president. After which he handed out some hand outs on the topic: Journalism.

We also covered some important aspects of journalism which I wasn’t able to find in my textbooks in Highschool.

The whole seminar was divided into two topics and these were  writing and editing. We rediscovered the art of writing and the etiquette involved in editing. It was truly fun to know a great many things about the inside life of being a writer or an editor.

Conclusion

Insoy was a wonderful speaker who knew how to reach out to his audience and also learn from them. The whole seminar was more of a review of what I learned in my English Composition class back in highschool, but it was rather interesting to hear the actual workings of an editor and a writer. There is one thing we had to take into consideration though. Blogging and journalism still has its differences especially since blogging is a form of Personal “media” as compared to a Newspaper where you actually are writing for someone else. Journalism has never seemed more interesting than this. Thank you very much Insoy for stimulating our gray matter! :)

Insoy would also like to encourage everyone to take time to check:

Hey, John… My apology for not attending the seminar. I realized that I needed such seminar despite of other trainings I have gone through. But sad to say that my “real” job didn’t permit me to go… Hope other Content Management Committee will understand.
