Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM)

CIM on their marker
I am proud to say that my father is a graduate of one of the best medical schools in the Philippines and the best medical school in Cebu.
Cebu Institute of Medicine or popularly known as CIM (although a lot of people refer to it as Velez as the founder is Dr. Jacinto Velez) is actually the no. 1 Med school in Cebu City. The doctors who graduate from here are recognized anywhere in the Philippines and are also internationally recognized.

Somehow the students prefer the brick ground than the cemented area.
CIM is found in Ramos Street just beside the Cebu Velez Hospital. Already beyond its 50 years, most of the famous and skilled doctors are known to be graduate of this school.

Landscaping the once dry and empty area.
CIM now is following the new style of education which is the PBL or Problem based learning which is centered on the students learning on their own. The lectures of teachers are not the only source of learning and the students do small group discussions. This encourages the students to do critical thinking.

Project of the Synergists of CIM
My father said that CIM is very difficult that even one of his foreigner classmates said that “he nearly died there”. Now with CIM following this new style of education students will even experience a more challenging style of learning. I’ll be honest and say to get in this school is hard and to survive and finish it is even harder. I don’t need to see my Achi (elder sister) go through 3 years of several sleepless nights to know that this school can really stress yo out but then the result of the hard work is priceless. When you finish CIM you become a world class Doctor. There’s just that sense of awe when you hear someone say “hey! You’re from CIM!”.

At the entrance of Cebu Institute of Medicine
The pictures I showed there is a project of the Synergists Batch (my dad’s batch). To those interested to go in CIM all you have to do is take the NMAT which is the National Medical admission test. You will be qualified if you have finished any four year college course. Then there is the interview. Before it would’ve been Dr. Poblete but now I heard it’s now Dr. Meneses.
To those who would like to be in CIM one day I would like to quote the words of the Dr. Poblete: “Here in CIM you study medicine, you drink medicine, you sleep medicine, and you dream medicine..”
Good luck to all future doctors!

I’m planning to take up my pre-med there…
just want to ask… how much is the tuition fee for a med tech student?
I’m planning to take up my pre-med there…
med tech will prolly range from 23-25K
presently, i’m a 3rd year HS student in cebu. i’m planning to take medtech in CIM. just wanna ask, is the 23-25 k tuition whole year or per semester? i’m quite confused on its website because in the requirements, the applicant must have a bachelor’s degree. can’t i take my bachelor’s degree, hopefully from this school?
CIM <- Medical school for Medicine
Velez <- for BS Medical Technology
23-25k is per sem,
The bachelor's degree in CIM is referring to those who want to take medicine. You need to take up a 4 year bachelors degree course before proceeding to medicine
i just would like to ask..how much is the tuition fee for a med student??
my apologies as I don’t really know the full tuition. you can try checking out their website at cim(dot)edu(dot)ph
Hey,
Im coming to CIM to do my elective rotation in July and August. Im a fourth year medical student from Belfast, Ireland. Any tips for me before I come?? Do you know any fourth year students?
hmmm.. I’m not yet a student in CIM, but my sister and brothers are students there. What would you want to know about CIM? Ireland wow. that’s cool.
I would like to find about places that I can visit for sight-seeing-I would prefer places that are not full of tourists but then I guess that there aren’t too many tourists in Cebu? I will be at CIM for 6 weeks then im going away for 3 weeks before coming to do 2 weeks at Cebu Doctors’ University. What years are your brothers and sister?
Tourists are everywhere in Cebu but it’s not overcrowded (although Cebu is the no. 1 in Tourism destination according to the Philippine Dept. of Tourism). Well, there are a lot of places you could go such as Fort San pedro, Sto. Nino Church, Magellan’s cross (these are destinations for History Hungry people) but as what I know people best love Cebu for two things: Beaches and Food. You cannot leave Cebu without trying Cebu Lechon (roast Pig) which was claimed in Reader’s Digest as the best in the world. Cebu’s Mountain View is also a wonderful place to go. One thing is for sure, here in Cebu, to get from one place to another is no hard task at all.
My Sister is now about to be an intern, while my brother is entering 1st year med.
hey!
thanks for all that-I’ll keep it in mind. It’s always good to hear about a place from a native haha!Im trying to learn some cebuano at the moment but im not getting to far!
Just want to ask, how did your brother get into CIM. I was planning to take NMAT december. Just gathering some tips on how I will pass it. Do we really have to be super intelligent to pass the exam?
No you do not need to be super intelligent. Just attend review classes and then you’ll pass. if you had a good pre med such as Biology or Medtech then you have a larger chance of passing.
i would like to ask if CIM accepts applicants with to-follow-NMAT? that means we will take the next available nmat while enrolled this coming semester. please.. i would really want to study in CIM..
you really need to get through NMAT first before getting in CIM or any med school.
For those who’re planning to study in CIM:
1) admission is not as tough as in the country’s leading universities
2) though getting in is relatively easy, maintaining a ‘regular’ status NEVER is. you may not want to review for NMAT, but it is a must that you review (comprehensively) medically-related sciences
3) CIM attracts the brilliant minds, mind you; it is no safe home for people who do not WANT to enter the cult of ‘not-sleeping-at-all’
4) CIM adopts the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system
5) tuition is student-friendly
6) student population is small
7) teachers are GOOD
Good Luck!
hehe. hey liz, great point on CIM. So true. No. 3 is super true!
Hi, CIM is a GREAT school
CIM is the best medschool in cebu, one of the best medschools in the philippines because it is recognized as center of excellence by CHED (based on their track record, performance in the licensure examination and excellent faculty) and 3 medskuls lng ang COE in med education(CIM, UP,UST,) and the most important reason why CIM is the best:
didto gud ko magskwela! nindot jud !hahaha ill be 1st yir med stude ths june 7,2010
btw, nice post mate (the pics made the building not too ghostly hehe)
Thanks Alfred.
wonderful reasons indeed

hi!!! just Want To ask….
Hmmm..how much is the tuition fee if i will be taking up medicine there..?
I’m interested..
Thanks….
It’s about 67k+php for one sem, in one school year there are two sems.
Wow this is a great resource.. I’m enjoying it.. good article
It was some good information that you posted.
Fantastic website, exactly where did you obtain the template?
This post was very nicely written, and it also contains a lot of useful facts. I appreciated your professed way of writing this post. Thanks, you have made it very easy for me to realize.
You don’t have to have add subjects anymore as long as you graduate from a four year course. Nmat, I don’t thinl they require a specific percentile.
hi
im planning to enroll in cim nxt year because i heard so many good feedbacks that it is one of the best med schools in the philippines. I just want to ask if what is the required percentile rank in nmat for me to be accepted at cim and do i have to take additional units in bio, math, chem and the like bec. i graduated as a nurse.
thanks.
hi good day to you. iam a graduate of uv – gcm. i do believe thats its up with the student but not with the school. uv gullas college of medicine is also producing competitive practitioners in the city. ( dr bael pedia neuro, dr belocura adult neuro. etc.)
thank you. GOD BLESS US ALWAYS
I.L.G MD
It is up to the student yes. but we can never deny that school is also an important factor.
Good day.
for me sir school is not a factor. we had our internship in chh together with other med school one of those is cim. but during my time its dr bibera who top the termination exams in internal medicine but not from cim. dr bibera is my group mate from gullas he is 2nd year internal medicine resident in chong hua now.this to update you that the training officer in internal medicine now in chong hua hospital is a graduate from gullas.he is a rheumatologist. and before i graduated med i have 1 professor in gullas. shes the number 1 in the WHOLE PHILIPPINES in pediatric neurologist fellowship both written/oral exams she graduated from gullas also. i would like to reiterate that school is not a factor. we are using the same text books. thank you.
all medical schools in cebu are good.im proud of my school where i came from. (uv gullas)
It’s good that you are proud. to each his own.
hi..im from manila..a BSN graduate and planning to go there in cebu nxt yr to pursue my medicine proper, my plan ofcors is to enter CIM..i heard a lot of good feedbacks about CIM. goood thing about CIM daw is they have cheaper tuition fee but with a high quality of education. i hope a can convince my mom to allow me to go there and be part of CIM..thanks for the infos..
That’s great Reina

im planning to go there and inquire by december.. i wanna pursue my med there at cim.tnxs for the info.im excited, hope they will accept me for the next school year.
Good luck Kay
hope I’ll get accepted too
Tanong kolang kong magkano ang tuition fee for 1sem sa medtech kc gusto kong mag aral jan dhil nababalitaan ko na CIM is the best school for medicine.
@Lucita, yung medtech is around 29K per sem and that’s in Velez College which is the school beside CIM.
the tuition fee of cim this sem is 68, 141.00..that is cash upon enrollment..
Hi I’m very interested to know if CIM accepts transferee from another Med School. I am currently a 1st yr Med student here in Manila but unfortunately financial difficulties come along, but since I really want to finish Medicine, I am opting to transfer to another Med School with a lower tuition fee yet not compromising the quality of education. Do you know if CIM strict in that sense? I would like to know the details before going there to Cebu. Thanks a lot!
hello hannah, I don’t want to bring false hope and say yes they accept but I don’t also want to discourage you. I’m in no position to tell you that they don’t accept transferees. I do know however that they will accept students at first years but not from first year from another school then enroll in second year in CIM. hope this helps.
Alright then, thanks for the info. Guess I have to go to Cebu personally then and inquire
Hi, this is awesome. I must say.
Is it really hard to be qualified as Med student at CIM? I am now dead anxious since my family is actually expecting me to be enrolling for CIM the next school year. Im a Registered Nurse btw. I’m taking the december NMAT and hopefully get a decent score.
I wonder if you have compiled list of tips to help me get through the application, interview?, and entrance exams as well??
great shots.
hello jewel.
I’m not one to say if it’s hard or not but some say it’s easy while other says it’s hard.
Some say it’s all in the interview but try to score well for your NMAT.
I have heard that:
CIM is all about loyalty and perseverance so you gotta show in your interview that you really know what you’re getting into and that CIM is the only school and choice you have in mind when thinking about studying Medicine.
Hope this helps and good luck to us
Hi!:D
THANK YOU so much for the help. It’s so nice of you to take time answering my post.
*Loyalty and Perseverance.
And may God be with us.
