Cakewalker’s Cafe at The Strip

Cakewalker’s Cafe is a nice and cozy coffee shop. Here in Cebu we can a variety of Coffee shops for students to study at. This is especially because we have a lot of students in the medical field so they prefer to study somewhere away from their comfort zone.

One of their frozen drinks worth 135php

As a blogger I’ve been going around, looking for the perfect coffee shop to fit my needs. What are my needs? I need a electrical outlet, a comfortable chair and table, nice cool ambiance, silent area, nice staff, free WiFi, affordable drinks and most importantly, convenient location.

Nice comfortable chairs with a cozy Ambiance

Cake Walkers Cafe at the Strip here in Cebu (just beside Bo’s coffee Capitol, in front of CDU), fits all of these. Although I’m not really a big fan of their frozen shake drinks (which are almost as expensive but not as good as the ones in UCC Cafe Ayala Terraces) But the tea is just absolutely wonderful. Although it is not near good as the Chinese tea that I enjoy, but it has its own beautiful taste.

My work place next to the Cafe Counter with Cake selections

The cakes are priced around 75+ and above. They’re not concerned at how long you stay, they just want you to enjoy your experience in the place. And even if you don’t have an outlet they go an extra mile by providing you with an extension wire. I know this is indeed my new blogging temple.

Green Tea and Mint for 60php

I tried two of their tea available and I’ve grown fond of the Lemon Tea. The Mint Tea is also okay but I still prefer the Lemon Tea which slide smoothly in my mouth and then makes drinking a delightful experience.

I highly recommend this Lemon Twist Tea for the same price of 60php

My brother who happens to be a coffee lover and in his first year of Medicine in CIM, enjoys studying there as the coffee is very affordable as compared to other branded coffee shops.

The second floor of the cafe

The Cafe also has a second floor and can actually accommodate at least 30 people (this including the first floor).

Over all I’d give this a generous 8/10 rating. (It should have been 9 if not for the expensive but not so delicious frozen drinks)

Looks can be deceiving, I don't recommend this

Sizzling Plate Sisig at SM Cebu Foodcourt

One lunch time I decided to head over to SM City Cebu Foodcourt where there is absolutely free wifi. Ever since SM launched their free wifi I get to see people go around with their netbooks, laptops, iTouch, iPhones and other mobile wifi devices. While enjoying there meal, the highly active online Pinoy users access their accounts.

The selection of plastic demos

It seems only yesterday since I once was a small child and my family (there were 6 of us back then) would enjoy a Sunday Family lunch in Sizzling Plate. I used to order my favorite pork chop and deliciously colored Java rice.  This time however, I decided to be adventurous with my choice and decided to give their Sizzling Plate Sisig a try.

Pinoy style Sizzling Plate Sisig

And so my delicious order of ground pork sizzling on a plate, showered with spring onions, topped with sunny side up egg (medium-rare), and generous serving of the good ol’ Java Rice.

The whole meal along with a drink is worth less than a (100) hundred pesos. With a nice cool area with free wifi I think the food is totally worth it. The quality ain’t that bad either. I’m giving this whole eating experience an 8/10. It’s not perfect but totally worth your cash :P

Olive-back Sunbird (Nectarinia jugularis)

Nesting Sunbirds in the Firecracker plant

Here in our house we have a lot of flowers because of the cool atmosphere. A particular plant we have is the Firecracker plant which may have as many as thousands of flowers. Small and tubular flowers are perfect for Olive Back Sunbird. And so the birder in me was hungry for some bird shots I aimed at the male Olive Back Sunbird while it gave out its loud territorial call. This way it sort of warded off other Olive Back Sunbird pairs.

Armed with a feeble 90-300mm f/4.0-5.6 with no absolutely no image stabilizer I aimed away at that tiny zipping Avian beauty. *Click*  and another *click!* and then I think I got it.

Male Olive back Sunbird

Since I am merely using a 300mm I had to be really careful with shooting because I was very near the bird. One wrong move and my chance would fly away. While waiting a little longer the bird decided to do its territorial song.

Sunbird Singing

As if it couldn’t get any cuter the cute lil thing decided to show its beautiful throat.

Stretching it a little further

I also chanced upon a young female within the area (I know its young because I saw the dominant male feeding it).

Far away Female

The ecosystem would not be complete if there were no possible predators: the Long Tailed Shrike (Lanius scach)

The Long Tailed Shrike

The Olive Back Sunbird are actually related to the hummingbirds and also have that peculiar ability to hover and fly backwards. Them being part of the nectar feeding group of birds, they have a strong tendency to forage among flowers. They are territorial birds (as I’ve seen one male noisily chasing other males of the same species). They also go by pairs nesting in bushes and other secure areas. Contrary to what people think (that they feed only on nectar), the Sunbird lives not on nectar alone. It will feed on insects too to supply for their other needs.

I’ve always enjoyed these beautiful backyard birds as they are what greet me early in the morning with their loud tweets. Should you want to see them in your backyard you can try planting more flowers as these are actually common in the Philippines and South East Asia.

Hukad at Ayala Terraces Cebu

Kinilaw na Isda

One Friday of Lent my bestfriend and I ate in Hukad Ayala Terraces. Since it is a friday of lent then I had to order non-meat food. I started it out with a delicious bowl of Kinilaw na Isda.

Hukad Ayala Terraces never ceases to amaze me with their delicious taste of Pinoy food. My bestfriend preferred some chicken meal so he ordered the Chicken Pandan.

Chicken Pandan (I didn't eat this, Bryan did)

My experience in Hukad Ayala Terraces would not be complete without the: Sizzling Gambas. My ultimate favorite.

Sizzling Gambas (my fave)

Then a nice dish of Calamares would also add nicely to the meal for two.

Calamares

I’d rate my Hukad experience at a whopping 9/10 because of the beautiful ambiance, great service, beautifully themed place, wonderful food presentation, and value for money. We spent around 600+ for the whole meal along with drinks and bottomless rice. I would definitely go back there to try again their Sizzling Gambas and hopefully some meat dishes like the most sought after: Crispy Pata.

Globe WiMax in Cebu City Public Schools

March 24th, 2010 by The Photoblogger

The Cebu Bloggers in Globe Wimax's Launching

Recently Globe launched a campaign to educate Public school students on proper use of computer and the web. By providing free internet from WiMax for one year they are able to give the students a chance to have enhanced online education by means of supervision from a teacher.

Curious Students

The even marked the launching of free WiMax for 6 public schools in Cebu City and we happened to be in Zapatera Elementary School for the launch. The program is what we know as ISP or internet in Schools program.

Guada influencing the students

The Bloggers experienced the great speed of Globe WiMax. It actually works like a HUGE wireless router where users can get it within the 1 kilometer radius. For those who prefer no wires and would like subscribe for a monthly internet service at home then the Globe WiMax would be a very good option. Rabsin even subscribed for it already.
