The Cebu Normal University Biological Society

Last Saturday I had the wonderful opportunity to be invited by the Cebu Normal University Biological society to their turn over ceremony which was in Talisay Butterfly Park.

I was informed that a few years ago the place did not have much butterflies but now they seem to have more specimens than before. It was rather unfortunate that when I went to their sanctuary it was no longer as green and lush as it was before. This is probably because of the drought. Even the rivers and dam had no water left.

The ceremony included handing over certificates to the past officers and welcoming new officers. The symbolic passing of the Key of responsibilities (A USB) was given from Jen, the ex-governor to the newly appointed Governor: Rommel. Congratulations to the new set of officers :)

Oath taking of the new officers

The ride going to Talisay was via a new school bus of CNU. Pet of Southwestern University and I were very honored to be one of the first students to try out this bright new school bus. (My gash, maytag naay in.ana amo skul)

The experience was very wonderful. I felt in touch with my nature loving side again. Thank you very much Cebu Normal University for inviting me to this important ceremony.

Money’s worth

March 21st, 2010 by The Photoblogger

Have you ever traded something very valuable in the desperate need to exchange for money? Have you ever lost something which you would have called a “priceless” belonging and never to see it again? It was probably because you pawned it in a very suspicious pawnshop.

What could be worst is that you won’t get your money’s worth in that valuable object. Pawning your valuable something is something risky because you yourself don’t know the true value of your possession and even if you do, their standards might be different and unfair.

Thankfully online information is the key to almost anything. You can get any information about these in Dallas, TX to look for information for trustworthy shops.

You can search about shops from Dallas Pawn Shops to Laredo Pawn Shops. With the power vested by Google, you can now search for anything ready for your convenience

Variable Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx lepidus)

A Variable Dwarf Kingfisher on my hand

They say a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush. All I can say is that having a wild bird sit in your hand is a very rewarding experience. Our worker in the house caught a Variable Dwarf Kingfisher. I saw it outside our house in a makeshift cage and I felt pity towards it.

I decided to ask it from him so I could take some shots before I release it once more into the wild. The Variable Dwarf Kingfisher was still rather weak from being caged too long.

This small bird, despite being caged for a long time was actually pretty active.

A Variable Dwarf Kingfisher is an insect feeder and lives in high trees going in pairs and perching in branches while foraging. They are excellent fliers and even more excellent divers. Diving in to the water to catch fishes or other forms of prey.

I believe I am ever lucky to have had the opportunity to hold such a beautiful bird in my hand. Bird Photography is still possible for me after all, despite the lack of the 18-200mm f/2.8L lens.

Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus)

Immature Brush Cuckoo

One clear day after I returned from a half day of school I chanced upon a brown creature that was on the floor. I went near it curious as what this Eurasian Tree Sparrow was doing here. After a close look I realized it was a larger bird.

After confirmation from the Birding Master: Romy Ocon I discovered that this bird is actually an Immature Brush Cuckoo.

another shot to get it's beautiful pattern

It was a curious thing to happen because in all my time of birding around my place here in Busay I’ve never encountered the Brush Cuckoo. From what I read about this particular bird this feeds on insects and other grub. Birding Master Romy Ocon had a picture of this bird with a caterpillar in its mouth.

I still can't believe how tame it was

Unlike the other photos of wild birds, this one did not hit a window. I’m guessing it was still new to flight so it couldn’t fly away. I’m actually surprised that the immature Brush Cuckoo was very tame as I only had to slightly push its abdomen for it to climb on to my finger.

MMe and the cute lil cuckoo

After I finished taking shots I decided to let it go. However I kinda think I should have kept it and raised it till it was old enough to fend for itself. I guess there is still a lot more that I should learn about birds. If you have any wild bird, always allow it to rest 1 hour before releasing it to the wild.

My Brother plays the bass guitar and the accoustic guitar. My other brother plays the drums (and i strying to learn the guitar). My younger sister plays the piano. And I play the piano, recorder (alto), flute, and other wind instruments.

Before we use to buy our instruments the traditional way. We go to a shop, circle around the mall for other shops, stare at the price tags, circle again the mall, stare at the price tag and make a decision to buy it.

I haz Google PIN !!!!

March 15th, 2010 by The Photoblogger

After a year of waiting I now have a Google PIN!!!!!

I actually received this Last Friday March 5, 2010. It’s about 3 months since I re-requested it from Google since the first PIN did not arrive.

This means only one thing, I am officially eligible to receive MONEY!!!!

All I need to do is wait till the end of march so that I can receive my payment. Whew! All that hard work is finally materializing into something.

For those who feel hopeless about your PIN, here are the steps to follow.

1.You must know that you are eligible to receive PIN (check the terms and thingies in Google adsense)

2.You must have the right addressed placed in your account

3.Request once and wait for 4 months, then if no PIN yet request again.

4.If all else fails you can go through the process of Google Help where they will ask for a valid government ID which has your home address then they will activate your account.

Good luck to all adsense earning people out there.
