Cebu Institute of Medicine (CIM)

CIM on their marker

I am proud to say that my father is a graduate of one of the best medical schools in the Philippines and the best medical school in Cebu.

Cebu Institute of Medicine or popularly known as CIM (although a lot of people refer to it as Velez as the founder is Dr. Jacinto Velez) is actually the no. 1 Med school in Cebu City. The doctors who graduate from here are recognized anywhere in the Philippines and are also internationally recognized.

Somehow the students prefer the brick ground than the cemented area.

CIM is found in Ramos Street just beside the Cebu Velez Hospital. Already beyond its 50 years, most of the famous and skilled doctors are known to be graduate of this school.

Landscaping the once dry and empty area.

CIM now is following the new style of education which is the PBL or Problem based learning which is centered on the students learning on their own. The lectures of teachers are not the only source of learning and the students do small group discussions. This encourages the students to do critical thinking.

Project of the Synergists of CIM

My father said that CIM is very difficult that even one of his foreigner classmates said that “he nearly died there”. Now with CIM following this new style of education students will even experience a more challenging style of learning. I’ll be honest and say to get in this school is hard and to survive and finish it is even harder. I don’t need to see my Achi (elder sister) go through 3 years of several sleepless nights to know that this school can really stress yo out but then the result of the hard work is priceless. When you finish CIM you become a world class Doctor. There’s just that sense of awe when you hear someone say “hey! You’re from CIM!”.

At the entrance of Cebu Institute of Medicine

The pictures I showed there is a project of the Synergists Batch (my dad’s batch). To those interested to go in CIM all you have to do is take the NMAT which is the National Medical admission test. You will be qualified if you have finished any four year college course. Then there is the interview. Before it would’ve been Dr. Poblete but now I heard it’s now Dr. Meneses.

To those who would like to be in CIM one day I would like to quote the words of the Dr. Poblete: “Here in CIM you study medicine, you drink medicine, you sleep medicine, and you dream medicine..”

Good luck to all future doctors! :)

McDo Lent Specials

Fillet-o-fish Value meal

Every Friday I have a whole afternoon to myself. Usually I use this time for introspection and relaxation. I might take the time to read a book, an article or even study.

My favorite study place happens to be McDonalds Jones Branch where they are the only branch in Cebu that provides a projector for business meetings. (you can have meetings in mcdo!)

Fridays during this also happens to be a time of fasting and abstinence. As I have already had my full meal during breakfast I am supposed to only have a small meal for lunch. So I ordered a solo Fillet-o-fish with a separate Coke zero regular. With much I regret I realized I could have just bought the value meal as it would come out cheaper with the fries and hand over the fries to my company that time which was Bryan. (me and my diet T__T)

So the 110php worth of Fillet-o-fish sandwhich and coke zero regular was good enough for abstinence but I could’ve paid 109php for the whole value meal which includes regular fries.

I guess this is the only allowed meal for the Lenten season. (chicken is part of the not-allowed-to-eat list) I did see a good number of people ordering the Fillet-o-fish, sales look good for McDo.

Ayala Terraces: Seattle’s Best Pesto

Seattle's Best Pesto

One boring Saturday afternoon I just wanted to get away, go far away from the common confines of Ramos street and Jones avenue.

I wanted to be somewhere I am not usually at. I wanted to go to a totally new place and so after constant talking to myself, me and myself concluded that I go somewhere far away from Ramos but near enough not to get scolded by mom. (yes, I have chains tied around me and will sound an alarm when already 5 kilometers away from Ramos street…. and yes I am kidding)

So off I went to Ayala Terraces and specifically in a dark corner with an electrical outlet: Ayala terraces Seattle’s Best.

I wanted to go somewhere where I won’t spend 500php (as a result of my recent visit in UCC cafe) while having free internet and an electrical outlet. So I ordered a Pesto. It had no meat so I was fine with it. The problem is I wasn’t really satisfied with the Pesto. I felt like it lacked something but then again it may just be variable from one person to another.

So how’s Seattle’s best? Well when it comes to internet it’s not really the best because it only allows 2 hours of free internet. I went beyond my 2 hours and I got disconnected. I was placed in a situation where I had to choose between spending another 100+php for a drink to get an extension OR use my Globe Tattoo and spend 10 php for the last 30 minutes of finalizing my work. Well being the “tihik na intsik” (stingy chinese) that I am you can already guess what I did.

I’ll be honest that the place has a good aura for bloggers. I love the ambiance. My blogging productivity increased by 90% as compared to my usual places! Maybe next time I’ll try their drinks.

Photoblogger’s Planner: Schutzen Planner

Schutzen Planner

Schutzen is the name that marks my planner’s anterior covering.

This was actually a gift from my bestfriend and me being a person who is obsessed with preserving prized possesions went paranoid on how best to use it. I even went to the point of thinking of practicing my writing again so that my handwriting could improve before I write on this expensive piece of notebook.

After several arguments with myself on how best to use the Schutzen Planner (one of them involved putting it in a glass casing and just staring at its expensive leather glory) I finally came up with an ingenious idea.

Nice ridges on the surface of the Black Schutzen Planner

I’ll just use it.

I realized if I keep staring at it forever then I guess the pages will probably turn to dust before I can even use it. I also came up with the idea to use a pencil instead of a pen because being the messy person that I am I tend to make so many erasures that you could swear that’s where 80% of my pen ink goes to.

I cut off some colored ribbons to mark different segments of the planner. The planner had 8 important parts.

1.Profile information – like those page profiles you see in facebook
2.Calendar for year 2010,2011,2012 and 2013 – this thing was obviously ready for me just in case I had no plans of using it.
3.Monthly Planner
4.Weekly planner
5.Daily Planner – seriously this thing wants me to plan my entire life in paper
6.Projects and Goals – where I can write down my BIG projects
7.Notes – well, yeah, for notes
8.Contacts – to keep people I’m most likely to forget

Opening a page in the Black Schutzen Planner

Setting up this planner has become a step back in technology for me. I’ve been using my Palm T|X for the past 5 years as my organizer then evolved to the Eee PC. So what exactly happened? I realized that tactile touch is always better. For some reason there seems to be a greater push of motivation whenever I write in notebooks, planners, or even post its. I do hope that I’ll actually finish whatever I have written in this really expensive planner.

Thankfully the price of the planner won’t go to waste as I can actually buy a refill and still use this awesome cover.

How to use the Planner

This planner actually has 3 important segments which are rather redundant if you ask me. However, after careful studying of my activities I realized they actually are quite important.

For the monthly planner I use it to mark important days or events. For the weekly planner I use it to mark deadlines and meetings For the daily planner I schedule the things I need to do in a day. All in all it is a very helpful tool. So here’s to the first few days in using my Schutzen Planner.

For The Young and the Old

March 3rd, 2010 by The Photoblogger

For today’s topic I want to discuss two things of great concern for the youth and the mature generations.

Let’s start with the HUD Apartments. HUD stands for Housing and Urban Development. It is the Federal Department in the States that concerns in better housing and urban renewal.

With the decrease in real estate values it is not that difficult to find something online about cheap HUD Apartments.

And for the second matter of concern is the ever growing, seemingly never ending Naruto. This long lasting craze is just something the youth cannot get over with. With a strong influence on the Japanese Animation or Anime and the touch of Chinese mystical arts such as the presence of the legendary Chinese Horoscopes.

Naruto will continue to baffle those who are not in it and will continue to entertain those all over it. I’m just quite curious though, when does this Naruto craze end? We never know…

All these you can find here.

Best Cebu Dried Mangoes

Dried Mango products with the Tamarine variant

Okay I don’t really know what are the best Cebu Dried Mangoes but I can say that Cebu Dried Mangoes are the best!

I’ve already had more than one foreign relative or friend telling me that only Mangoes in Cebu can really hit the right spot in their tongue.

Cebu Dried Mangoes are one of Cebu’s favorite treats for tourists. When you come to Cebu the first thing your friends will be asking you is to either  bring them back some dried mangoes.

After Vince Ong interviewed me for his school project he left me with a nice token: some samples from his family’s business.

Cebu Dried Mangoes is the best form of “pasalubong” because it is affordable, dry, and ready to give. I remember seeing in grocery stores some Koreans who push a cart full of dried mangoes.

If you plan to buy it you can purchase the usual pack for about 40-50php.
