The Sinulog Festival Grand Mardi Gras 2010

Child dressed up as Sto. NiƱo (doesn't seem to happy about it *facepalm*)

After the 9 days of novena and other activities in Cebu City, the much awaited Sinulog Grand Parade or Sinulog Grand Mardi Gras welcomes the second Sunday of January.

Settling in Fuente Circle

Much of the spectators arrive as early as 6-7am to already position themselves in places before anyone else does. Armed with blankets, straw mats and umbrellas, some small families settle within the Fuente Park.

All ready in my Sinulog 2010 look

Ten Kilometers away an excited neophyte is sitting patiently on his computer screen plurking away until he gets to go to the Grand parade around 10:45 am. Shockingly late yes, but this year that photoblogger was very fortunate for the Grand Mardi Gras did not really start until somewhere the time he arrived.

My first Shot for the sinulog Grand Mardi Gras

Lucky for me I didn’t miss much during that time I spent waiting at home. Apparently the parade was delayed because of the rain and I’ve already heard a series groans from people who were complaining about the very confusing weather.

San Diego Dancers Costumes never cease to amaze me.

Even if I was rather late I was still able to experience the changing weather. you’d think “Storm” decided to come to the Sinulog Grand Mardi Gras. Washed away with rain, fried under the sun, and blown dry with the cold wind, I can say this year’s Sinulog was truly a challenge.

Despite the rain the children continue to smile and dance to the beat of Sinulog

This year’s Sinulog 2010 Grand Mardi Gras pushed through rain or shine (which in this case was both). And everyone who spent their 650php for their photographer’s pass also came. I’ll be honest in saying this year I didn’t really do my best as most of my energy was spent walking. I shall remind myself to bring a companion next year. Shooting alone sucks.

Fuente for me has always been the "heart" of the Grand Mardi Gras

A child squeels in delight as the car goes along the parade route.

So together with my 50mm f/1.8 and 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 I shot the Sinulog away. Here are my photos for this year.
